Sushiela’s “Jamal and the Camel”
We are pleased to announce the publication by Running Water Press of Sushiela's Jamal and the Camel, a story of a magical meeting of a desert chieftain with a princess, with story and illustrations by the artist. A tale of love, its unique font was created by Sushiela to accompany the story.
Sushiela was previously commissioned by Orchard Press to illustrate Sir Richard Francis Burton’s previously unpublished translation of Pilpay’s Fables.
Born in South India, Sushiela moved to Los Angeles in 1970. Introduced as a child to drawing, painting, and sculpture by her artist mother, she later took up painting of botanicals, inspired by the meticulous drawings of her botanist father.
We are delighted to share a few pages of the text and illustrations.
