A large woven basket with complex "zig-zag” pattern. Adelbert Mountain Range north of Ramu River, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea. This is a remote area, from which material is rare. Glossy, glowing patina. Circa first half 20th century.

Art objects embody much of these cultures, and fragile works such as this basket represent aspects which may otherwise have little voice as many of these languages disappear.
