Shaman's Apron, Nepal

$1,500.00

A shaman's apron from Nepal, circa early 20th century, the bells likely older.

The shaman, summoning the spirits to heal or provide divine intervention, often accompanied their entreaties with righteous noise. The bells and hand crafted metal objects suspended from this apron make an impressive and unforgettable sound.

Six heavy brass bells, eight tin bells (about 3 in long each), and a multitude of sun, moon, and round metal discs attached to the leather holster. Clear signs of age and use. Important regalia.

From an Indian private collection.

36 in wide when extended
